Annie's become quite a fan of zoos lately. In fact, it was a method she and I used to evaluate different areas in which Jay was interviewing for a job for this coming year (Louisville won partly because we couldn't see the whole thing in one visit, but mostly because it had a train). The Houston Zoo is actually quite fabulous. So given that the weather here is in the 70s, we thought today would be the perfect day to introduce Papa to the whole affair. Annie always wants to head straight for the monkeys. She even brings her monkey along so he doesn't forget where he came from (and where he could go back to if he doesn't behave). She also loves, with apprehension, the Children's Zoo, which has a petting area where you can brush goats. Before putting her to bed tonight, whilst singing her lullabies, Annie interrupts and said to me, "I brushed one goat, Mama, not two." Clearly, zoology has made an impression. That, and an undying commitment to accuracy in journalism.
